Vegan Tonkatsu
This delicious vegan twist on the classic Japanese Tonkatsu features crispy breaded tofu or seitan slices, seasoned to perfection and fried to achieve that iconic golden brown crust.
Method
Tested in our kitchen
Press tofu or seitan to remove excess moisture.
Season with salt and pepper.
Set up dredging stations: one bowl of flour, one bowl of plant-based milk, and one bowl of mixed panko, nutritional yeast, garlic, and onion powders.
Dredge each slice first in flour, then dip in milk, and finally coat with panko mixture.
Heat oil in a pan and fry each piece until golden brown, about 5 minutes per side.
Serve hot with the sauce drizzled over or on the side for dipping.
