Add onion, garlic, and red bell pepper. Cook until vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
Stir in ground cumin and chili powder, cooking for another 1 minute.
Add black beans and vegetable broth. Bring to a simmer and cook for 25 minutes.
Use an immersion blender to puree the soup to your desired consistency.
Serve hot, garnished with fresh cilantro.
