Peel and cut taro root into chunks.
Place taro root into a steamer or pot with water. Cover and cook until easily pierced with a fork, about 6-8 hours.
Using a masher or high-powered blender, mash or blend the taro root into a smooth, sticky paste, adding water as needed for consistency.
