Vegan Berliners (Doughnuts)
Soft, fluffy, and filled with sweet jam, these vegan Berliners are a plant-based spin on the classic German doughnuts.
Method
120 min prep · 20 min cook
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, dry yeast, and salt.
Add the lukewarm almond milk and melted vegan margarine to the dry ingredients and knead until you have a smooth dough.
Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for at least 1 hour.
On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 2cm thickness and cut out rounds using a cookie cutter.
Place about 1 teaspoon of jam in the center of half of the dough rounds. Cover with the other halves, sealing the edges tightly.
Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 170°C (340°F). Fry the doughnuts until golden brown, then transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Dust with icing sugar before serving.
