Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, and cook until softened.
Stir in curry powder, cumin, and turmeric for about 2 minutes.
Add the potatoes, coconut milk, diced tomatoes with their juice, and salt. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 30 minutes.
Stir in peas and cook for an additional 10 minutes.
Garnish with cilantro before serving.
